Sam Hamilton-Poore

Sam began his ministry at Montevallo Presbyterian Church in October 2019. He has served Presbyterian, Lutheran, and United Church of Christ congregations in several states, and also formerly taught at the San Francisco Theological Seminary. He is a graduate of the University of South Carolina (BA in English), Duke University Divinity School (MDiv), and San Francisco Theological Seminary (DMin). In addition to serving at Montevallo, Sam offers a ministry of spiritual direction to people seeking a deeper relationship with God. His wife, Terry, is pastor/head of staff at the First Presbyterian Church of Birmingham. They have three young adult children and two grandchildren. Sam enjoys music, whether listening or playing (he plays trombone), as well as reading—fiction, non-fiction, poetry, theology.


Wayne McLaughlin

Wayne McLaughlin, a native of Louisville, Kentucky, has served pastorates in Indiana and Ohio. He served as the Transitional Pastor at MPC before the ministry of Leanne Pearce Reed. Wayne has a broad ecumenical background, having begun ministry as a Southern Baptist minister before transferring his ordination into the Presbyterian Church; and having once served a Lutheran congregation as part of an ecumenical parish. His first spiritual director was a Catholic priest, and he has taken graduate level courses at two Catholic schools – the University of Dayton and the University of Notre Dame. The author of six books, Wayne is a retired member of our presbytery – Sheppards and Lapsley. He lives with his wife Pat in Homewood.

Dria is a student at the University of Montevallo, where she is pursuing

a BS in Mass Communication with a concentration in broadcast production. She also has a minor in Marketing, and has extensive experience in photography. Her home is Alexander City, but she lives on campus during the school term.
