More Light Mission Statement:

Following the risen Christ, and seeking to make the Church a true community of hospitality, the mission of More Light Presbyterians is to work for the full participation of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and asexual (LGBTQIA+) people in the life, ministry and witness of the Presbyterian Church (USA) and in society.

What Does More Light Do?

More Light’s mission has always been to empower and equip individuals and congregations to live into their welcome for LGBTQIA+ people. More Light has developed interrelated programs to move congregations along a pathway towards full inclusion, improve ministry services for LGBTQIA+ individuals in need, and expand the faith-based movement opposing discriminatory legislation. As a More Light church, More Light assists Montevallo Presbyterian Church and our members to build our capacity and develop new skills to deepen our welcome to LGBTQIA+ people within our church and their communities. 

As a More Light church, what do we believe?

We believe that the founding vision of who to include as a child of God at the beginning of this movement was toward further recognition of who to include in the umbrella of God’s welcome – that gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and queer persons are created in the image of God; a counter to the prevailing assumption that we were an abomination in the eyes of God. The hope then was that LGBTQ people would be welcome in the life of the church just like any other sibling in Christ. What a revolutionary statement that we are all God’s children!
