First Light

First Light is a Center for Homeless Women and Children located in the heart of downtown Birmingham. It offers the only emergency shelter accepting homeless women and families 24 hours a day in the area. In addition to meeting the basic needs of our guests, First Light offers the following:

• Individualized case management
• Group sessions, life skills, art and movie therapies
• A variety of fun and information activities
• Four permanent +1 transitional housing programs
• A place of acceptance where guests can begin to regain dignity, hope, and independence

First Light is an inter-denominational and inter-faith mission that relies on volunteers to provide meals and to stay overnight in the shelter. In addition to providing financial support, our church cooks and serves dinner at First Light throughout the year.   And as a part of MPC's mission giving, a portion of every offering to MPC goes to First Light.
