First Light

First Light provides shelter and other services for homeless women and children in downtown Birmingham. It opened in May 2000 to expand the services of an emergency night shelter that operated in the basement of First Presbyterian Church in downtown Birmingham for over 15 years. First Light is an inter-denominational and inter-faith mission that relies on volunteers to provide meals and to stay overnight in the shelter.

Serving at First Light in Nov. 2008

Our church cooks and serves dinner at First Light once each quarter and provides financial support through our benevolence giving.

Serving at First Light in November 2008 were (l-r) Becky Cox-Rodgers, Anne Hamilton, Jack Hamilton, Judy Rogers, and Rev. Wendy Hare.

Serving dates for the first two quarters of 2009 are March 21 and May 9.

Students serving at First Light

Students in the Forbes House Fellowship, our Campus Ministry program, also prepare and serve meals and serve as overnight volunteers each semester.
