Christmas International House
Christmas International House is peacemaking at the grassroots level. It offers hospitality to international students who are attending college in other parts of the country. By visiting in our homes during the holiday season, our guests come to understand our culture better. At the same time, they become acquainted with different areas of our country. We also can develop friendships with them and learn about cultures very different from our own. Every two years, our church hosts two international students as part of the program. During the 2004-2005 Christmas holidays, our church hosted two young women from Japan--Noriko Obata, who was attending Southeast Missouri State University, and Shoko Nishida, who was majoring in political science and Asian studies at Randolph-Macon College.
During the 2006-2007 Christmas holidays, we hosted one student from South Korea and and one from Saudi Arabia. Eun Hwangbo from South Korea attends Concordia University in Irvine, CA, and Bandar Algahreer attends Western Illinois University in Macomb, IL. |
