At MPC, we give thanks for the life and witness of Stacie Duke Harris, who served as our church secretary for more than fifteen years. Here is the meditation offered at her funeral service on Sunday, April 10, 2016.
“Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of services, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who activates all of them in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.” (1 Corinthians 12:4-7)
This month, we receive the Peace & Global Witness Offering. During this Season of Peace, our thoughts turn to the meaning of peace and how, through Christ, we can nurture it inside ourselves and out in the world. Yet, to understand the value of peace, we must also understand the cost of conflict, and the many forms it can take.
MPC sent nine people (ages 3 and up!) to the Montreat Worship and Music conference June 20-27. The conference offered engaging workshops and inspiring worship every day, and culminated in an outstanding concert by all the choirs. Our younger children had a blast in the Montreat Clubs program, while one of our older elementary students participated in the music track for children, which included children’s choir and beginning handbells.
“The Good Life.” What is it? What isn’t it? How do you know when you’re in it? Which way leads toward it? Which way leads away from it? How is it different than – prosperity? power? happiness? and other cultural norms? What does the Good Life taste like, smell like, look like, feel like? In the Wisdom literature of Scripture, ancient voices wrestle with questions about the Good Life and how to live it. Beginning July 26, join us for a new sermon series as we together explore the Good Life.
